The Short Game In Golf
The short irons are the ones that can really keep your scorecard looking respectable. It is no use getting up to the green in two shots if you
then take three to get the ball in the hole. Confidence in your shot range shots to the green will help you turn three shots into two and even
two into one.
Feeling confident is the all important factor in honing your short game. You will have often heard it said that sure of your shots. That sense
of confidence will come from having the correct technique to play each shot and through practicing that technique until it has become second
nature.
Score saving shots
No matter how consistent a player is from tee to green, they will always find themselves chipping several times during every round. Even the
best players hit only 13 to 14 greens in regulation per round. This means superstars regularly rely on their short game to keep their scores
low.
Imagination and vision
The wide variety of courses, together with variables such as the pin position, the size, shape and contours of the putting surface and the lie
of the ball, mean that there are an infinite number of shots that you can face around the greens.
You have only half a dozen or so suitable clubs at your disposal, however, so vision and imagination play a key role in an accomplished short
game. Without the ability to picture a shot in your mind, you will stand little chance of executing it successfully.
The good news is that almost anyone can improve their short game. It takes neither fantastic athleticism nor timing to hit a shot on to the
green. All a player needs is a basic understanding of the technique and the desire to improve.
