Technique For Golf Pitching

First things first when pitching over a bunker, make sure your technique is correct. The ball should be set in the middle of your stance and the weight should slightly favor the left hand side. The most important aspects now are control and rhythm.

The best way to ensure the former is with a backswing restricted to half your normal length, any more than that and you are asking for trouble. The follow through will almost certainly be about the same length if you have mastered the rhythm.

Swing normally. Think smooth and keep your legs still. Let the club do the work, it will have more than enough loft to get the ball over the bunker.

Also think half and half, half a backswing and half a follow through. The swing should involve a slight acceleration through the ball, but not so much that it disturbs your rhythm.

That is all important. If you are ever at a professional tournament, just wander over to the practice ground and watch the professionals working on this shot. One thing will quickly be apparent, their half swings all possess the same tempo and all are smooth as silk.

Fear And Loft In Golf Pitching

Clearly the key that links both these pitching shots is the fear of botching it up. The bunker is no longer just a hazard but a snarling menace, with an insatiable desire for your golf ball.

Another common failing is the worry that the club does not possess enough lofts to get the ball over the sand, so the player tries to scoop it over. Nothing could more certainly lead to failure.

Before playing the shot, take several practice swings, concentrating on only taking the club back to the horizontal and following through the same amount.
