Slow and smooth In Golf Swing

Your final consideration when playing from any kind of slope is that you should swing as smoothly as possible. Any time you are confronted with a shot that is slightly out of the norm, the temptation is to swing too quickly to get it over and done with, and the end result is usually less that impressive, leading to an even greater lack of confidence the next time.

A smooth tempo will often compensate for technical flaws in your swing, so even if you are unsure about how to amend your address position, if you can remain calm enough to swing smoothly you will have a good chance of playing the shot.

Uphill lie
On an uphill lie, you have a ready made launch pad to help get the ball airborne, so remember to allow for the higher ball flight by taking a less lofted club to achieve a similar distance as you would from a flat lie.

To bring your shoulders in line with the slope, place a little extra weight on your right leg at address and keep your right shoulder low. This will allow you to swing along and up the slope through impact, rather than straight into it.

Downhill lie
When the ball is in a down slope, the gradient removes loft from the clubface, thereby causing the ball to follow a lower trajectory. Allow for this by selecting a slightly more lofted club to play the shot.

In this case, when you bring your shoulders in line with the slope you automatically set a little extra weight on your left side. Your left shoulder should feel lower than the right at address. From this address position, the steeper takeaway will enable you to clear the slope.

Ball above feet
When the ball is above the level of your feet, you should stand more upright at address and choke down on the grip of the club. Your more upright spine angle will produce a flatter and more rounded swing path, which will cause the ball to curve from right to left in the air. You can compensate for this by aiming right of your intended target.
