Playing From A Bare Lie In Golf
It is imperative that you set up with your hands ahead of the ball at address to ensure a crisp strike. The last thing you want is for the club
head to bounce off the ground into the back of the ball.
Through impact, make sure that your hands return to exactly the same position that they occupied at address, a couple of inches, for example,
5 cm ahead of the ball.
Bare Lies – A pitch shot from a bare lie is much more common than one where your ball has unluckily trundled into a divot. Even on the best
links courses, the ground around the bunkers near the greens can get very parched.
Many amateurs dread playing a pitch shot over a bunker from a bare lie. The professionals, however, would much rather face such a scenario
than a cushioned lie because it enables then to impart spin on the ball. Once again this is a shot where basic technique will help you overcome
any fears, the normal pitch shot rules apply.
Golf Stance
1. At address, the golfer adopts an athletic posture, with his body aligned squarely to the target. The body angles created here will be
maintained throughout the entire swing.
2. At the top of the swing, his hands are above his right shoulder, with the club shaft square to the target line. The spine angle
remains as it was at address and the knees are still bent.
3. At impact, the hips are open to the target, while his shoulders are in virtually a square position.
4. Even in the follow through position, you can still see the angles he created at address.
Ensure that golf shoes you buy fir as comfortably as possible. Remember you will be walking more than 5 miles each time you play. Novice
golfers need not have too many long irons in their bag.
Most bags come with automatic stands that ensure that both bag and clubs do not come into contact with wet grass. A glove will prevent the
grip from slipping in your hands.
