Golf Green Putting Strategy
It is well worth taking time to plan your putt. More often than not, however, a player will fail to do this, instead he or she will take only a
quick look at the hole before making a stroke.
At the other end of the scale, the top professionals are very careful about the way in which they analyze their putts. They know that mistakes
on the greens can be very costly, so they give all their putts maximum concentration.
They also take several practice strokes, not vague wishes with the putter but precise reproductions of the shot they are about to play. They
are rehearsing the feel of the shot, at the same time visualizing the way the ball will roll to the hole.
Pace Before Line
Most disappointing three putts are caused not by poor accuracy but by leaving the ball well short of the hole with the first approach putt.
Even relative novices will rarely miss a putt of four feet, but all too often players leave the ball farther than that from the hole after their
first putt.
Therefore, with long putts your strategy should be to remember that pace is more important than line unlike with short putts. If the speed of
a putt is good, you can afford to misjudge the line by a couple of feet and still leave yourself with a simple enough tap in for your next
shot.
Use The Logo
Aim the logo on the ball at the line for improved accuracy. An excellent way to aim your putter face correctly is to mark your ball and then
turn it so that the manufacturer’s logo points directly towards the intended line.
Now all you must do is set the putter face square to the logo and complete the stance. Once you have lined up, you can go ahead and make a
smooth, confident stroke.
