Confidence In A Golf Game
Chipping should be relatively simple. The technique is not as complex as a full swing; the distances are not as large. So why is it so
troublesome? If you are confident, your technique will be solid, your thoughts positive and your ball striking will be clean. How many times do
you see professionals golfers chip the ball close when they are around the green?
They never seem to miss and they roll the ball to within a couple of feet or 0.5 meters every time. They never mess up the shot so that it
dribbles only a yard meter, or catch the top of the ball, thinning it through the back of the green.
The best chippers in the world complement exemplary technique with awesome imagination. They can not only play the most incredible shots but
they can also see them in their minds before they hit the ball. This is really a great skill that you too can develop through practice and
experience.
Understanding the ball’s reaction
Standing on a green lobbing ball with your hands, just to see how they react on the putting surface, is a great way of nurturing imagination.
A positive attitude will also help; look to hole your chips as opposed simply to getting them close.
You will soon stop worrying about fluffing these shots and will be free to use your imagination as much as possible. Chipping requires
precision and a delicacy of touch.
Vardon grip – Named after the famous British golfer, this grip is often referred to as the overlap grip, as the little finger on the right
hand rests in the groove between the index and second finger on the left hand. This is the most popular grip among low handicappers.
Baseball grip – juniors are often encouraged to use the baseball grip. The hands are placed side by side on the grip, without any link, so
there is more freedom of movement, making it easier to break the wrists and release the club.
